Ichor is pleased to announce the appointment of Viv Rickard to the position of Deputy Chief Executive - Service Delivery at the Ministry of Social Development (MSD).
Viv was most recently Deputy Commissioner - District Operations at New Zealand Police - an organisation in which he has carved out a distinguished 33-year career. This was a second-tier role where he worked with districts to deliver better performance outcomes and supported a range of initiatives to modernise and transform the police force.
Prior to this, Viv spent two years on secondment to MSD, which included a period leading Child, Youth and Family and three months relieving as Chief Executive. His earlier roles included:
- Deputy Commissioner - District Operations (2014)
- Deputy Commissioner - Resource Management (2010)
- Assistant Commissioner - Operations (with Crime and Investigation portfolios)
Before being appointed Assistant Commissioner at Police National Headquarters, Viv served two years as Waitemata District Commander and prior to this, was Northland District Commander for five years.
Viv's appointment at MSD comes at a time of significant change, following the creation of Oranga Tamariki - Ministry of Children and the end of the term of the current, long-serving Chief Executive, Brendan Boyle.
He commenced his new role in June 2018.
