Ichor is pleased to announce the appointment of Penny Nelson to the position of Deputy Director-General at the Ministry for Primary Industries.
Penny was most recently Deputy Secretary - Environmental Performance, Innovation & Climate at the Ministry for Environment. Reporting to the Chief Executive, this role had accountability for climate change, the marine environment and hazardous substances. Penny helped shape the Ministry's contributions in this area and was acknowledged as a key figure within the senior leadership team.
Prior to this, Penny made her mark as the Executive Director of the Sustainable Business Council at BusinessNZ, a role she held for three years from 2012 to 2015. Working to the then Chief Executive, Phil O'Reilly, Penny led the way for New Zealand businesses to compete on a common platform that was driven by sustainable business practices.
With a career that has been largely centred in the public sector, Penny's earlier career has revolved around senior policy leadership and advocacy roles in organisations including ACC, Landcare Research, DairyNZ and Ministry of Social Development.
Acknowledged by her peers for her breadth and depth of policy expertise, coupled with her understanding of New Zealand's global trade positioning, we are pleased to have advised on Penny's appointment to this integral role.
She commences her new role in August 2018.
